Tent talk with Professor Hirotaka Takeuchi

22-Sep-2009

Professor Hirotaka Takeuchi is the Dean of Hitotsubashi University and an expert on Japanese innovation. "Toyota is a green tomato," he explains to host Professor Doug Guthrie of the Berlin School. "They think of themselves as always growing and intentionally incomplete". In this Tokyo TentTalk Professor Takeuchi summarizes the findings of his recent study of innovation and creativity at the leading Japanese automaker. He describes the contradictions between Toyota's Kaizen system of continuous improvement and recent leaps forward with products like the Lexus and the Prius. Learn also why people are so important in new knowledge-based creative economies and how Japanese innovation created "hard" and "soft" power in the past and is now leading in "smart" customer-centric power.
